A COMMITTEE OF THE ROTARY CLUB OF STRATFORD CHARITABLE FOUNDATION
COMMIT works under the umbrella of the Rotary Club of Stratford Charitable Foundation.
Our mandate is to better the lives of those less fortunate in a few villages in Nicaragua by providing them with the necessary means to improve their quality of life. We have drilled wells, built outhouses, started a sewing co-op, built a community center addition, we hold yearly medical clinics, we have shipped much needed supplies to a local hospital in Nicaragua, started a very successful agricultural project which is expanding and recently started an eco- friendly stove project.
COMMIT promotes microeconomics and we try to empower the local population to contribute to our projects, including some cost sharing endeavors.
We are raising money at the moment for our Eco-Friendly stove project.
Each stove costs approximately $250 CAD.
These stoves will improve the lives of the women and children exposed to the toxic fumes from the open fires they cook on. These Eco-friendly stoves produce little or no toxic smoke in their homes, cause decreased respiratory issues, have increased heat efficiency, decrease the amount of burns and require less wood . This project will be coupled together with a reforestation project and will help reduce the greenhouse effect.
