Agriculture Project

Agriculture Project-update 2023

The agriculture project, started by COMMIT January 2019, in the village of Nandarola has proved to be a huge success. Originally 10 farmers were chosen in the village of Nandarola and an agronomist hired to oversee the projects. Since then more farmers were added to the mix for a total of 27 active members. COMMIT had the opportunity to meet with some of those farmers again to see their accomplishments. Besides family plots, they have planted a large field with corn and beans which has been yielding good, successful crops. They proudly showed us their crops and some of our team even walked the difficult walk up to the top of the hill where they are farming

Two farmers in the village have proudly taken on a bee hive production and shared with us the problems but also successes that they have experienced.

Graham and Richard discussed the need to expand the projects and to add more worm boxes to each of the farmers that already have one. They are happy with the knowledge they have received from our former hired agronomist. They will continue to work on their gardens and plots with support from COMMIT.

A MEMORIAL TO HONOUR PAT FERYN

Our team held a memorial together with the farmers of Nandarola to honour Pat Feryn who had recently passed away. Pat and Jane were instrumental in getting the Agriculture Project started in the village of Nandarola. He will be greatly missed.

WORM BOXES

The compost worm boxes have been a huge benefit to the villages of Nandarola and La Vigie. They provide rich, black compost and the worm urine makes excellent pestiside.
